This way you pay safely during the holidays

Febelfin is happy to give you some tips to guide your bank account safely through the holidays.

The holidays are coming again, and with that come standard many festive purchases. Even in the midst of the pandemic, the Christmas period remains the busiest of the year. As weird as 2020 was, we like to end it with a package for each other (or for ourselves). A large proportion of the packages will be purchased online this year, but the physical stores will of course also be open again. For those who make purchases in physical stores, digital and contactless payment remains the ideal means of payment for corona-proof and safe payment.

Tips to pay safely

Whether you choose to pay by card, contactless, by smartphone or via an online payment: digital payment is always a good choice. It is fast, easy, hygienic and safe. Febelfin is happy to give you some extra tips to keep your payments extra safe this year as well.

Card payment:

  • Do not share the PIN code of your bank card with anyone and do not write it down anywhere.

  • Shield the keyboard when you enter your PIN code and make sure no one can look over your shoulder.

  • Have you lost your card? Or was she stolen? Then immediately contact Card Stop on 078 170 170.

Smartphone:

  • Never make payments over an unsecured Wi-Fi network.

  • Use the most recent version of your payment app and make sure all updates have been made.

  • Make sure no one reads your codes.

Online payment:

  • Choose webshops that you know yourself.

  • Check whether the payment zone of the website is properly secured: the web address starts with https (instead of http) and a padlock appears.

  • Check the reviews of other customers and check whether the website follows all regulations: you must find information about returning goods, payment methods, ...

Banks also close during the holidays

The Belgian banks are closed on Friday 25 December 2020 and Friday 1 January 21. On those days you cannot contact your bank or visit them. Some banks close their doors for an extra day, so read the closing days of your branch carefully on their website. All digital payment services will continue to work. You can therefore always bank online and mobile, pay with your card and carry out transactions in a self-bank.
