Febelfin develops new DigiHandig training modules to help citizens become more resilient against online fraud

DigiHandig, the free application that allows users to practise their digital skills, is expanding its educational offering with new interactive training modules on online safety. These modules help users recognise and therefore prevent online fraud more effectively. The Helpers Portal, where digital coaches, trainers and support staff can access additional exercises, teaching materials and background information, has also been significantly expanded. For the development of the new modules, Febelfin, DigiHandig and the Dutch programme Toegankelijk Bankieren combined their expertise in a unique cross-border collaboration.

A new step towards greater digital resilience

Digital applications make everyday life easier, but they also come with risks. Online fraud is becoming increasingly sophisticated, and it is often difficult to recognise suspicious messages, fake websites or other scam attempts.

Drawing on its extensive expertise in fraud prevention and financial education, Febelfin helped develop a new training module that teaches users how to better identify and avoid certain forms of online fraud. Through interactive exercises, participants are introduced to realistic everyday situations in a safe learning environment, enabling them to recognise specific types of online fraud, browse safely online and become more aware of digital risks.

Additional support for digital helpers

Strengthening people's digital skills requires more than simply providing information. Many participants need additional guidance and support.

That is why, alongside the new training modules, the Helpers Portal has also been substantially expanded. Digital coaches, trainers, libraries, digital support centres and other facilitators will find additional exercises, practical tips, background information and ready-to-use teaching materials. This will enable them to provide even better support and guidance to participants on their journey towards greater digital self-reliance.

A unique collaboration between Belgium and the Netherlands

The new training modules are the result of a unique collaboration between DigiHandig, Febelfin and the Dutch programme Toegankelijk Bankieren, an initiative of ABN AMRO, ING, Rabobank and ASN Bank. Following earlier collaborations on mobile banking in both Belgium and the Netherlands, the partners once again joined forces and combined their knowledge and expertise. The result is a shared offering that addresses digital security challenges faced by citizens in both countries. For Febelfin, this initiative fits perfectly with its commitment to making consumers more resilient against online fraud and financial crime.

Working together to build digital inclusion

“A first and important line of defence against online fraud is knowledge and practice. These new modules allow people to learn, in a safe environment, how fraudsters operate and how to recognise suspicious situations. This aligns perfectly with our objective of making consumers more resilient against financial fraud. Thanks to our collaboration with DigiHandig and the Dutch banking sector, we can now put this expertise to even broader use.”
Karel Baert, CEO of Febelfin

The first training module on online fraud is available on DigiHandig from today. Additional modules will be added to the platform over the coming months.
