Belgians and round‑the-clock banking: the figures

11 March 2022 - 2 min Reading time

We are all banking online en masse. But which channels do we use most often and for what purposes? And also: how often on average do people still visit a bank branch and for what services? What evolution do we see in the area of cash withdrawals? Answers to these and many other questions can be found in Febelfin's new brochure, which contains the latest figures on digital and physical banking (branch network, withdrawals).

In a nutshell:

  • 91% of respondents manage their money via their PC and 81% via the bank app.
  • The demand for online banking subscriptions and mobile subscriptions continues to grow (also among senior citizens).
  • Videocall and livechat are becoming more and more common.
  • The majority of Belgians hardly ever visit a bank branch anymore.
  • 45% indicate that contact with the bank could take place more online.
  • Changing consumer behaviour is reflected in the further reduction of the branch network.
  • The decline in the use of cash continues.
  • A small group is not yet banking online. Find out why and what the sector is doing to accommodate them.
