Wich steps should you take to switch banks?

1. For a current account

Which steps should I take myself?

  • Open a current account at your new bank, either online or at a branch.
  • Apply for the bank switching service at your new bank through the application form.

What do the concerned banks take care of afterwards?

Depending on the options you select on the application form, banks can help you with the following steps:

  • Move standing transfers and money transfers with memo dates to your new bank.
  • Cancel bank cards at your previous bank.
  • Closing of your current account at your previous bank.
  • Transfer your balance on your previous current account to your new one.
  • Informing your direct debit creditors and recurring payers of your new account number.
  • Informing you of blockages and/or restrictions on direct debits active at your previous bank.

After a few days, you will receive a list of your direct debit creditors and recurring payers who have been notified.

Do you prefer to contact these parties yourself? In that case, your new bank will provide you with the list of involved creditors and payers together with sample letters that you can fill in and send yourself.
