Febelfin takes note of the report from the Belgian Competition Authority

9 November 2023 - < 1 min Reading time

Febelfin has taken note today of the particularly detailed report from the Belgian Competition Authority regarding competition in the Belgian banking sector. According to the report, no agreements or other restrictive competition practices among banks were identified, but rather a concentrated market, like the rest of Europe.

The Belgian Competition Authority has made several findings, leading to a series of proposals. Many of these proposals require adjustments to legislation and, therefore, need to be thoroughly examined. Additionally, it will be important to consider the specificity of the Belgian banking sector and the Belgian market in general. Febelfin will now carefully analyse the report and review the findings and proposals from the Belgian Competition Authority, discussing them with its members.
