In April 2019, the number of credit applications increased by 14% compared to those recorded in April 2018. The total amount corresponding to these requests increased by almost 16%. In the same month, the number of granted loans increased by 12%. The amount of loans granted also increased by almost 16% compared to April 2018.
These are the findings of the mortgage credit barometer figures from the Professional Union of Credit (BVK).
Om de evolutie van het hypothecair krediet sneller te kunnen volgen, stelt de Beroepsvereniging van het Krediet (BVK) sinds begin 2009 een hypothecaire-kredietbarometer op. Deze barometer geeft elke maand de evolutie weer van het aantal en volume nieuw toegekende en aangevraagde hypothecaire kredieten van de voorbije maand, in vergelijking met dezelfde maand van het voorgaande jaar. De vermelde percentages hebben betrekking op omzeggens de totaliteit van de BVK-markt van hypothecaire kredieten.
De onderliggende absolute cijfers worden op trimestriële basis vrijgegeven via een persbericht van Febelfin.
The graph below shows the evolution of credit applications, in number and amount, for the last twelve months. Monthly figures are each time compared with those of the same month in the previous year.
In April 2019, the number of mortgage credit applications increased by 14% compared to April 2018. In terms of amount, an increase of almost 16% was also observed compared to the previous year.
The increase in the number of credit applications applies to all types of mortgage credit: credit applications for the purchase of a home (+11%), for the construction of a home (+14%), for the renovation of a home (+12%), for purchase + renovation (+19%), and for other real estate purposes (+47%). The number of applications for external refinancing (+15%) also increased.

In April 2019, the number of granted mortgage credit contracts was 12% higher than the number noted in April 2018. The corresponding loan amount also recorded an increase of almost 16%.
The increase in the number of granted loans applies to all types of mortgage credit: loans granted for the purchase of a home (+16%), for the construction of a home (+4.4%), for the renovation of a home (+6.8%), for purchase with renovation (+45%), and for external refinancing (+6%).
