10 December 2025 - 2 min Reading time
On the weekend of 13 and 14 December 2025, the federal government’s accounts (recognisable by the digits 679 in the 5th, 6th and 7th positions of the IBAN number, for example BEXX 679X XXXX XXXX) will be transferred from bpost to BNP Paribas Fortis. Febelfin wishes to inform consumers about this and advises against making transfers to federal accounts on 12, 13 and 14 December. However, most customers will not need to take any action.
To carry out the technical transfer, the processing of payments to federal accounts will be temporarily interrupted. During these three days (12, 13 and 14 December), standard and instant transfers to federal accounts cannot be processed.
The FPS Finance recommends not making any transfers to a federal account during these three days in December to avoid refusals or incorrect processing.
From 15 December 2025, transactions will once again be processed as normal.
Account number: no change
The bank account numbers (IBAN) of the federal accounts will remain the same. They can be recognised by the digits 679 in the 5th, 6th and 7th positions. For example: BEXX 679X XXXX XXXX.
Because these account numbers remain unchanged, existing direct debits, standing orders or transfers already scheduled for a later date to these account numbers do not need to be amended. These transfers will simply not be executed during that weekend.
Nieuwe BIC voor internationale betalingen
From 15 December 2025, the following BIC must be used for transfers from abroad: GEBABEBB.
