Costs digital payment continue to decrease

Many merchants are still afraid to offer digital payment in their business. The study by the Price Observatory (published today by Minister Kris Peeters) shows that the costs of digital payments have fallen sharply. The study also argues that the costs of a digital payment are lower than those of a cash payment.

Febelfin underlines the importance of raising awareness among merchants and consumers

More and more consumers prefer to pay digitally. In other words: they are more than happy to pull out their smartphone or payment card to pay for their purchases. A recent iVOX study, carried out at the request of Febelfin, shows that this is the case for no less than 89% of Belgians. However, Belgian consumers are not yet able to pay digitally in every business. That is why Febelfin held a Digital Payment Day for the first time on Saturday 11 May. The target? Convincing consumers to use their smartphone or card more often and persuading merchants to offer a digital payment method. This way, the customer always has a choice: does he want to pay in cash? Then you can. If he wants to pay digitally, please.

Digital does not equal expensive

Many merchants are under the misconception that digital payments are expensive and affect their profits. Merchants who have already embraced digital payments, however, testify to just the opposite. Thanks to offering a digital payment option, they attract more customers and they also spend more easily.

The study by the Price Observatory (published today by Minister Kris Peeters) shows that the costs of digital payments have descreased. The study also argues that the costs of a digital payment are lower than those of a cash payment. If we look at the many advantages of digital payment (safe, hygienic, always available, fast, ...), then there is no reason not to use or offer it today.
